canal1This is what Kellys Lock looked like long ago.

An old Winch, but what it was used for, I don’t know.

Here is something else that I’ve found near a Canal Holding Pond.  It’s a good 20 feet long.  I have no idea.

All that remains of the Locktenders House from long ago.

Back in the day’s of the Schuylkill Canal the Locktender lived in a small stone home that was right next to the Lock.  His job was to open and close the Lock Gates to let water in or out to raise or lower the Canal boat.  He had to push or pull a heavy, long handle that would move the Lock Gates.

Thanks for visiting.
