Traveling up & down RT61 North & South many times, I remember a Day’s Inn that sat just off the highway, but hard to see since it sorta sat in a small hallow off the highway. I remember when this was being built, but never really paid much attention to it. Just another place to stop for the night, so I didn’t think anything of it.
However, now I had noticed that the Days Inn was looking like a place not used anymore. It was a mess, to say the least. Thought I’d grab my camera gear and go take a look to see what happened.
Welcome to the Days Inn in Schuylkill Haven or what is left of it. Doing some research about this, I found out that 2 Brothers from India owned this thru the Day’s Inn franchise. It was built by them back in 1985. I’m told that it was a nice place to stay over night with clean well-kept rooms. I don’t remember just how long it stayed in business, but over time it went down-hill because the Brothers got into something way over their heads. They had no Management experience on how to run a Motel at all. Realizing that it was failing the Brothers just up and left it!! Now, it’s a falling apart scar on the land.
Welcome! We have lot’s of rooms open for your stay . . . . If you dare!
Over the years, the whole place has been stripped of anything that could be sold for profit, including copper wire & pipes.
This is strange. Why?
Have a seat! Rest your feet.
While walking around this place, I was very aware of what might be in here that I don’t know about. I was very alert to anything. Places such as this is why a carry a .45 cal pistol. Who knows what’s in here that might want to rob or do me harm? I was told that during the Spring, Summer, and early Fall this place has “squatters” that live here. Drugs are common. However, during cold Winters there is usually nothing but an empty eyesore, because it’s just too cold.
Local people want the place torn down. Engine Company’s respond here because of small fires that start for some reason. They want it torn down, also. Local gov’t does nothing about it. Too expensive. So it is just left to rot away. Maybe in the near future, something will be done.
Thank You for Stopping by.
