STREETS OF HAMBURG

Ah, yes.  Good ole’ 3rd St. in Hamburg, PA.

3rd St. in my ole’ hometown has not changed much in the passing years.  It’s still pretty much the same as it has been when I used to ride my bicycle on these very streets.  However, there are 3 different places than before.  Where you see the Cross Key’s Insurance building, a Candy Store used to be there.  Us kids could go in there and buy penny candy.  It’s gone now.

Located right behind the Cross Keys Insurance is this parking lot.  On this spot, long ago, was something you just don’t see anymore  .  .  . and that was a Cobbler Shop.  It was just a little wooden building where shoes were repaired.  The Owner used to keep a cardboard box next to the door that had old discarded shoe heels that us kids could use for the game of Hop Scotch.  Made of rubber, these were great for playing that game.  The Owner never minded us coming in and search threw what he had thrown away.  Now, it’s long gone, but the memory is still here.

Again, right next to the parking lot, is this ally that I used to use as a short cut to school.  It is still the same as it was.  Has not changed.  I still can see me riding my bicycle up this ally in my minds eye.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. I haven’t been back to my hometown, but looking on Google maps, I get the gist of how much is still the same and how much is drastically different. Makes me wonder if I ever want to go back.
