Here I am. The image was taken at the Grandaughters Graduation in West Virginia State University a few weeks ago.
Now, on to what’s been going on here. On the morning of June 4th, my Wife had major knee surgery to replace her bad knee on her left leg. She had been suffering from pain for just under a year. Her joint was bone on bone. Not good. The surgery process went very good. The Sergon did a great job. He was so very pleasant & comforting to her. After the surgery was done, she stayed in the Reading Hospital for 2 days after to recover. The Nursing Staff had her up & walking not but an hour after surgery, if you can believe that! She did very well. However, that was because the drugs & medication did not quite wear off yet. The painful time is yet to come.
Brought her Home here and had to help her in just about everything she tried to do. The second day she was home, is a very painful time. It was a very trying time for us both. We were told that the 1st week will be nasty. They were right. Eileen had to take pain meds every 4 hours to keep the painful incision from hurting more than what it did. Me, being her caregiver, had to help her keep ice on her knee to keep the swelling down. Change the ice most every hour & a half. It’s a lot of work. She did not sleep well, nor did I for the 1st week.
The 2nd week started to get better. Not quite as much pain, but it was still there. She had to start some Rehab at Mountain Lake Rehab where certified people help her along the road to recovery. Every other day, she had to go. Her knee did get better & better, but it’s no picnic quite yet. Learning to put weight on a leg & knee that had a major operation is no fun! Learning to walk is another obstacle to overcome.
Now, into the 3rd week, it’s much, much better. She can walk with a cane, but still needs attention so there is no falling! Eileen can do much more now, and the incision is healing very nicely. Very soon she will be up and walking just like she did before. Like nothing happened.
It has been rough on us both. I can’t really go anywhere for long periods of time. About 2 hrs. is the max. I’m more than sure that she does not want to go thru this again! Me, either!
Thanks for reading.
