For the 1st time in 2 day’s, I finially got the chance to take out the 150-600mm Tamron Lens that I had rented from Perfect Image in Lancaster. The weather was real nice. No wind, clouds, and it was not so cold as before. Sun was out and getting warmer, so I took the Lens, Tripod, and Gimble Head over to the local Blue Marsh Dam just to see what this Lens will do.
I mounted the Lens on the Tripod and also attached a Remote Shutter Release. When I arrived at the Boat Launch area, there were quite a few boats in the water since it was such a nice day. Thought it would be a good place to use the Big Lens. Image above is one that I took having the Lens out to about 400mm. It’s not all that bad. I took some other shot’s but didn’t like them, so I deleted those.
So, to sort of make a long story short, I found that this Big Lens is not really for me. Yes, it will photograph subjects a good distance away, but it’s also heavy to carry around. It weighs a good 3 lbs. It is also cumbersome. It’s not a Lens to carry on a mounted Tripod from one place to another. I think that it serves it’s purpose to stay in one spot most of the time.
Yes, this Lens would be good for Bird watching, and Wildlife capture from a distance away, but I don’t get into birds and wildlife all that much. For those that do, it would be great. For me, it would probably end up sitting around and not be used for the $800.00 you’d pay to own it. So, what I’m going to do is return the Lens early and maybe get a rebate on a early return. I’ll use what I have.
Thanks for stopping by.
